MANSFIELD — A Mansfield man could be sentenced to up to life behind bars if convicted of raping a juvenile.
Zachary Hallam, 35, was recently indicted by a Richland County grand jury on three counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery and two counts of gross sexual imposition.
Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher said during the course of a separate legal matter, the juvenile victim disclosed “detailed accounts” that the defendant had sexually abused her at various times from 2016 to 2023.
The alleged offenses occurred at a Mansfield residence, Schumacher said.
If convicted, Hallam could be sentenced to life due to the alleged victim being under the age of 10 in one of the three rape charges, she said.
A 28-year-old Gahanna man has been indicted on multiple charges, including rape, in another alleged case of sexual abuse.
Jerome Murray was recently indicted on two counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of burglary, three counts of trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, three counts of domestic violence, assault, two counts of strangulation, gross sexual imposition and unlawful restraint.
Schumacher said Murray’s charges stem from three separate incidents at a Mansfield residence, which allegedly took place on Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and March 20.
“A person (Murray) known to the victim had entered the victim’s residence at different points, either by force or stealth,” she said.
Two men indicted on attempted murder
A Mansfield man was recently indicted on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
Quincy James Courts, 21, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, tampering with evidence and obstructing official business.
Schumacher said the alleged offenses happened on April 6.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident, where the defendant is alleged to have stabbed the victim multiple times — resulting in “immediate necessary medical intervention,” she said.
“The defendant (Courts) had fled the scene, but was subsequently apprehended and was alleged to have hid or discard(ed) certain evidence,” the prosecutor said.
Seth Vincent, 33, of Greenwich, was indicted on multiple charges, including attempted aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, attempted felonious assault, strangulation, trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, domestic violence and assault.
Schumacher said the alleged offenses occurred on March 18 in Mansfield.
“This indictment stems from an incident in which the defendant (Vincent), who was a past acquaintance of the victim, had entered their (victim’s) home uninvited following an abandoned 911 call,” she said.
Mansfield police responded to the residence, but Vincent had fled the scene. Officers located the victim, who showed “significant physical injuries,” Schumacher said.
“Based on potential merging (of charges), he (Vincent) would have maybe a maximum (sentence) of somewhere around the 30-year range, assuming conviction on each and every one (of the charges),” the prosecutor said.
