Stanley L. Herman, 78 of Galion passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 11, 2016 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 9, 1937 in Youngstown, he was the son of Benjamin and Diana (Abramowitz) Herman. He married Nancy (Hottenroth) Herman on March 5, 1985 and she survives.
He was a graduate from The Rayen School (High School) in Youngstown, received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Youngstown State University, Master of Education from Westminster College, Educational Specialist degree from The Ohio State University where he also received his certification in School Psychology.
He was a research fellow at Ohio University, Counselor for the junior and senior high schools in Ashtabula City Schools, and taught sixth grade in the Spring Local Schools in Petersburg, where students who turned in exceptional work were rewarded with a puzzling, crudely drawn bear.
Stan served in the United States Army. He belonged to the Galion Lions Club for many years and was a volunteer and member of the Galion Community Theatre.
Stan passionately enjoyed his work as a School Psychologist for Galion City Schools, the former Richland Hospital, and Bellevue City Schools from which he retired after many years. For 20 years Stan was the voice of the Galion Tigers Football team at Tiger Stadium with his best friend Fred, who served as his field spotter.
In addition to his wife he is also survived by his children, Thad (Julie) Herman, of Warsaw, Indiana, Stacey (Joe) Herman-Dorant, of Boston, Massachusetts, Nicole (Matt) Hanewald, of West Union, South Carolina, Sherry (Roger) Bartz, of Lewis Center, and Christine (Tim) Snider, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Ryan, Gabrielle and Olivia Herman, Emily and Thomas Hanewald, Alec and Drew Bartz; niece Janet Herman Barlow, of North Ridgeville; special friend Fred Fairchild, of Galion; sister-in-law Elaine Hottenroth and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard (Carol) Hottenroth.
He was preceded in death by a son Benjamin and a brother Paul.
At Stan’s request there will be no services held. The family will be holding a remembrance celebration in November near his birthday.
