MANSFIELD — Merrick Machado was selected “Student of the Month” on Dec. 7 when the Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment had its monthly belt promotion.

“Merrick’s dedication and determination has created a strong indomitable spirit to not give up and keep going even when he feels a bit overwhelmed during sparring class. He learned to persevere and just keep increasing his skill,” Sensei Reneta Music said.

There were 24 students in attendance at the promotion with three advancing in belt rank — Adrian Potts, Brown Belt; Theo Flanders, Brown Belt; and Penelope Potts, Blue belt.

After the promotion, the school had its annual holiday where students and parents shared in the potluck that each family brought. The students exchanged gifts and played games led by a student’s mom.
