MANSFIELD — Richland County Children Services will host its annual Swim/Bike/Run event on Friday, April 1 at the Mansfield YMCA.
The goal of the 24-hour event is to raise awareness of childhood abuse and neglect.
“The reason our event is a 24-hour event is because we want to remind the community we are open to take calls about abuse and neglect 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Carl Hunnell, supervisor of public information and outreach for the RCCS. “Our promise to the community is to have one person every hour running, biking or swimming.”
The event, which is not a fundraiser, takes place each year in April because that is national abuse and neglect month.
“It is a great way to begin the month,” he said.
The 24-hour event currently has about 50 Richland County Children Services employees and their family members registered, but there are still open slots, Hunnell said. The slots available to run, bike or swim are between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Hunnell said there are a limited number of T-shirts for participants.
Those interested may register by calling Hunnell at 419-774-4104 or emailing him at Carl.Hunnell@jfs.ohio.gov
