The middle school that is currently being constructed in Madison School District is progessing as planned, board members learned at last week’s Madison board of education meeting. Mifflin Elementary principle, Amy Parr-Wigton gave an update on the progress made in her school. And Superintendant Lee Kaple gave special recognition to retiring custodian of Mifflin Elementary, Gail Miller.

Kaple made note of the progress of the middle school that is being constructed. “The name has been placed on the front of the school and they just got that finished this afternoon. It is going to be one beautiful building for our kids. I am very pleased with how construction is coming,’ said Kaple.

Kaple praised high school students on grades received in the first nine weeks of the school year. “Every grading period, the high school students that achieve a 3.8 GPA or higher get a signed certificate sent home to them and I think this nine weeks is one of the highest counts we have ever had. The kids are performing well in the classroom and for me that is what it is all about,” said Kaple.

Principle of Mifflin Elementary, Amy Parr-Wigton, gave the board an update on the activities happening at the school.

“Currently we have 446 students enrolled which is a little up from last year. We have 56 employees at Mifflin Elementary,” said Parr-Wigton. “Our summer library program which is held every year at the Madison Public Library, had 72 students who completed that library program and we honored them with a pizza party.”

“We also have our community recycling program that takes place the third Friday of every month. We have our monthly good citizins award and they are given a prize. Also, this grading period we had 36 percent of our students who attained perfect attendance,” said Parr-Wigton.

Kaple acknowledged Mifflin Elementary custodian Gail Miller on her approaching retirement. “One person I would like to note is Gail Miller. Gail will be retiring from Madison Schools after working here for 14 years. Gail first began cleaning part time at the junior high and then moved to full time custodian. Gail will finish her career at Mifflin and we want to wish her the very best with her retirement,” said Kaple.

“Every grading period, the high school students that achieve a 3.8 GPA or higher get a signed certificate sent home to them and I think this nine weeks is one of the highest counts we have ever had. The kids are performing well in the classroom and for me that is what it is all about,” said Superintendent Kaple.
