MANSFIELD, Ohio – North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) will host a class titled “Unusual Fruits in Ohio,” Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 5 to 6 p.m. at 199 N. Main St., Mansfield.
Drew Shifley will instruct area residents in the many unusual varieties of fruits that can be grown in Ohio. The program will feature the Cornelian Cherry tree, the Hardy Kiwi vine, and even the healthful Goji Berry, also known as Wolfberry, among others.
Shifley said he became interested in uncommon fruits as a child. “I grew up on a farm in Galion and picked the fruit that grew wild: gooseberries, raspberries, May Apples, and elderberries,” he explained.
The program is free and open the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP to NECIC Community Garden Coordinator Rochelle Jones at 419-525-3101 or Rochelle@necic-ohio.org.
