ONTARIO — There’s an import blood drive coming up Thursday, Dec. 23 at the Richland Mall.

Why is it so important?

As holiday celebrations continue, concern is rising for the nation’s blood supply, which has now dipped to such low levels that could force hospitals to hold off on essential blood transfusions for patients.

Richland Mall Blood Drive on Dec. 23

Historically low blood supply levels, not seen in more than a decade, persist for the American Red Cross — which supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood. The ongoing decline comes at a time of year when donations typically fall.

Holiday get-togethers, school breaks and winter weather often lead to lower donor turnout, potentially further compounding the situation.

On Dec. 23, the Red Cross is going to where the people are — to the Mall — where people are doing their last-minute holiday shopping.

We are asking everyone to consider giving the gift of life this season by making a blood donation. The blood drive at the Richland Mall will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23.

We are asking that you please use your influence in the community to encourage people to make their blood donation appointment at this drive.

Anyone wanting to make an appointment can call 1-800-RedCross, go to Redcrossblood.org, or use their blood donor app to sign up. The sponsor code for this drive is RichlandMall. Appointments can still be made the day of the drive.
