LUCAS – Pinhook Meats butcher shop and deli will open on May 17 at 236 West Main St. in Lucas, bigger and with more options than before.

The business owned by JJ and Amanda Trumpower previously offered custom work in a smaller space. The business was operating in building owned by JJ’s brother from June 2014 through December 2017.

The Trumpowers relocated to the 8,000 square-foot building on Main Street during their busiest time – deer season.

“With the location and the timing, we had a ‘go-big-or-go-home’ attitude,” Amanda said. “The other space wasn’t going to be a retail space. This space had the potential.”

They’ve been busy ever since, remodeling the interior and preparing for customers.

“It was stressful, and we’ve been on the go,” Amanda said.

The market will sell deli meats, fresh meats, smoked meats and jerky, among other things.

“Everything’s always been word-of-mouth, so if people liked it, they said good things about it,” Amanda said.

JJ, who was born and raised in Lucas, hopes the business will grow over time.

“Just take small steps. We’ve taken it slow the whole time,” he said.

His wife, Amanda, grew up in Mansfield. The couple has been together nearly 25 years. They began dating in 10th grade, and now reside in Lucas.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Later, the Trumpowers intend to add more hours and hold a grand opening.

“By the grand opening, we hope to have a good routine,” Amanda said.
