James M. Jones

James M. Jones, 85, of Shelby, died peacefully Monday, July 3, 2017 at Oak Grove Manor in Mansfield.

Jim was born December 31, 1931 in Shelby the son of the late Paul and Gladys (Longworth) Jones. He was a 1949 graduate of Shelby High School and was a veteran of the US Army. Jim retired from Sprint after 33 years of service. He was a member of Shelby American Legion Post #326 where he had been Past Commander. His hobbies included fishing and golfing.

He is survived by a daughter: Beverly (Jack) Miller, of Mansfield; a son: Mike Harrah, of California; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother: Larry Jones, of New Jersey; a sister: Ruth Ann Goff, of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Christine (Simms) Jones on August 5, 1995, a son: Larry Harrah, a grandson: Jeffrey Miller, a brother: Paul and two sisters: Lou Ann and Sylvia.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. Rev. Dr. James C. Carder will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
