MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Renaissance Theatre has been selected to present a hands-on Roots of Rhythm workshop for teachers on April 30.
The Roots of Rhythm workshop will be held at the Renaissance from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 and led by Dr. Craig Woodson, an educator, ethnomusicologist, and Roots of Rhythm author/director. There is no charge for attending, and the workshop is eligible for contact hours toward continuing education credits.
Roots of Rhythm: World Drumming for All Ages explores different cultures, music, and instruments from around the world. Roots of Rhythm was originally created for use in International House of Blues Foundation and other arts and educational programs. The content—which combines music with social studies, math, art, and language arts—is designed to support classroom teachers in integrating music, music-making activities, and cultural ideas. Content and activities in Roots of Rhythm align with state and national education standards, and attending teachers will be provided with additional teaching materials to support their classroom lessons.
This workshop is funded by the Percussion Marketing Council, the Renaissance Theatre, and the NAMM Foundation. Interested educators can register at the Roots of Rhythm website, www.RootsofRhythm.net.
