MARION COUNTY — A 38-year-old Galion man and a passenger in his car sustained serious injuries Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident, according to the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 1:53 p.m. on Ohio 309 in Marion County’s Claridon Township.

The crash involved a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by J R Crabtree, 38, of Galion, a 2019 International LT62F semi driven by Omar Mumin,  48, of Burlington, Vt., and a 2008 Honda CR-V, driven by Paxton Schwaderer,  27, of Marion.

Troopers said Mumin was westbound on Ohio 309 and Crabtree was eastbound. Schwaderer was also eastbound, behind Crabtree.

Crabtree traveled left of center, according to troopers, and collided with the semi before coming to rest in the eastbound lane of Ohio 309.

Mummin’s vehicle traveled off the south side of the road and struck a guardrail, a ditch, and a tree.

Crabtree and his passenger, Hayden Kinney, 30, of Marion, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries as a result. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, according to the patrol.

Schwaderer’s vehicle was struck from debris which caused minor damage to the vehicle. She was not injured as a result of the crash.

Crabtree was transported to Marion General Hospital by 1st Consolidated EMS and was later transported to Riverside Hospital in Columbus by MedFlight Ground.

Kinney was transported from the scene by Marion Twp. EMS to Marion General and was later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by MedFlight Ground.

Mummin was also traveling with a passenger, Mohamed Kassim, 39, of Burlington, Vt. They were both transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion Twp. EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Township Fire and EMS, 1st Consolidated Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Ed’s 24 Hour Service.

This crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
