MOUNT GILEAD — A 70-year-old Mount Gilead man died in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night, according to the Morrow County Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash, which also included a motorist from Mansfield, occurred at 10:04 p.m. on U.S. 42 in Morrow County, troopers said.
The patrol said 70-year-old Darrell Boestler of Mount Gilead was operating a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on U.S. 42 near Morrow County Road 110 in Congress Township.
His motorcycle traveled off the right side of the road and Boestler laid the Harley-Davidson down, troopers said.
The motorcycle came to rest partially off the west side of the road. Boestler landed in the road and was struck by a southbound 2019 Lexus NX300 driven by Roxann Maynard, 54, of Mansfield, according to the patrol.
Boestler was pronounced dead at the scene by Morrow County EMS. Troopers said Boestler was not wearing a helmet. Maynard was wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS and the Morrow County Coroner’s Office assisted the patrol at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
