When school’s out, “Camp Broadway!” is in. Back by popular demand, the Renaissance will host a summer theatre camp for students ages 8-13 from June 23 – June 27, with classes from 8:30-11:30 a.m. daily. The program will culminate with a special class performance on Friday, June 27 at 12 p.m.

Interested students are invited to create and perform a mini-musical in just five days. Featured music includes songs from the contemporary musicals: “Aladdin,” “Wicked,” “Young Frankenstein,” “Shrek,” and “Matilda.” Students will explore the world of musical theatre in a special five-day camp that focuses on the elements of performance through theatre games, improv, and dramatic play as well as staging and the opportunity to sing their hearts out.

Camp Broadway! is coordinated and led by Renaissance teaching artist Dauphne Maloney, well-known for her work with youth theatre in the North Central Ohio area. Maloney is also the founder and director of Mansfield Youth Theatre (MY Theatre), resident director for the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre (RYOT), and youth theatre director at The Ohio State University at Mansfield. She has directed and costumed over 200 productions and served as the youth theatre director for the Mansfield Playhouse for 20 years.

Participating students will work directly with seasoned actors and actresses, as well as Renaissance Artistic Director Michael Thomas, an award-winning playwright and director.

The fee for student for participation is $105. For more information or to register, contact the Renaissance Education Department at 419-522-2726, ext. 212.
