MANSFIELD — The talented local youth who make up the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra will give their spring performance entitled “American Salute” at the Renaissance Theatre under the direction of Randy Heidlebaugh on Sunday, May 7, at 3 p.m.

The young musicians will be performing a variety of great American composers, including America The Beautiful, Gershwin’s “An American in Paris,” “Superman Returns” by John Williams, and Morton Gould’s “American Salute.”

Each season, the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra also conducts a concerto competition, and its winners are featured on the spring concert. This year’s winners are cellist Maggie Butler, of Lexington, and trumpet player Liam Shotwell, of Mount Gilead. Shotwell will perform “Concerto for Trumpet,” by Alexander Arutiunian and Butler will perform Saint-Saens’ “Concerto for Cello.”

“The audience will get to hear a wide variety of music by American composers including serious descriptive music, a jazz influenced symphonic poem, movie soundtrack music and patriotic music,” states Heidlebaugh.

Tickets are available at the Renaissance Box Office, by calling 419-522-2726, and online at MansfieldTickets.com. Adult tickets are $10 while student tickets are $5.
