WILLARD — Willard Middle School 8th-grade students are once again mustering into the militia for the 21st annual Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment.
Students will bring history to life by reenacting famous events and battle scenes from the Revolutionary War, including Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and the surrender at Yorktown.
Visitors are invited to step back in time as students, dressed in period clothing, demonstrate the daily life of minutemen and colonial citizens.
Attendees will experience a wide range of 18th-century crafts and activities, including tin punching, paper making, land surveying, military drilling, hearth cooking, food preservation, knitting, pottery, spinning, and more.
Keep an eye out — General George Washington may even make an appearance.
As part of this immersive learning experience, select students complete an application process that includes primary source research and a first-person character sketch based on a Revolutionary War soldier who later settled in the Firelands region of Ohio.
These students earn the opportunity to participate in a formal colonial dinner and ball, featuring live vocal and instrumental music.
Students will also spend the night in the encampment and, on Saturday morning, will portray camp life for the community, offering visitors a unique and interactive glimpse into the past.
This event is free and open to the public and provides a memorable opportunity for students, families, and community members to celebrate history through hands-on learning and reenactment.
