MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Division of Police has announced the return of Safety Town, the longtime summer program designed to help children entering kindergarten learn traffic and personal safety skills.

Now in its 89th year, the program began in 1937 when Mansfield police officer Frend Boals created the initiative for the city’s youngest residents.

Mansfield police officer Frend Boals organized the first Safety Town in 1937.

The second session will run June 22 through July 2. Classes will not be held July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Graduation is July 2.
