MANSFIELD — The Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment held its monthly belt promotion on Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There were 21 students in attendance and eager to demonstrate their skills.

Each student had the opportunity to demonstrate their kata in front of their peers, parents and grandparents.

After the kata performance, the students had an opportunity to spar with each other and the master instructor, Sensei Reneta Music.

Music sparred with three students — Theo Flanders, Adrian Potts and Colin Hall.

Grandmaster Gary Music discussed with students the strategy of sparring with multiple people and how important it is to stay safe and not become emotional.

“Multiple opponent sparring is about lining up the opponents and taking them out one at a time. The three of you did a great job demonstrating that,” he said.

Kayden Harris was selected student of the month.

The student of the month was awarded to Kayden Harris.

Reneta Music said, “I’m starting to see the understanding of what karate is about in you, you’re getting it.”

The next promotion will be held on Dec. 6th from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. with the academy’s holiday party to follow.

“This is the biggest promotion of the year, and there are always Christmas miracles” Reneta Music said.
