COLUMBUS — State Rep. Marilyn John (R-Richland County) joined the unveiling ceremony and celebration for the Ohio Women’s Monument at the Ohio Statehouse.

The unveiling ceremony began at the Ohio Theatre and then moved to the South Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse, where the monument was unveiled.

The monument, which features four granite columns etched with the names of Ohio women and nine bronze figures representing women across generations, eras, and experiences, was designed by Brenda Councill.

“As only the second woman to have served in the elected offices I’ve held, I am proud to walk in the paths that so many women before me forged,” John said.

“Speaker Jo Ann Davidson specifically was a mentor to me and so many other women in public service served the state of Ohio. Like her, may we continue to break through these glass ceilings so every little girl can know she can do or be anything she dreams.”

The Ohio Women’s Monument is the result of more than six years of planning and collaboration among Ohio legislators and leaders, the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, the Capitol Square Foundation, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and the Ohio Arts Council.
