Thomas K. Mess, age 73 of Mansfield, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 21, 1952, in Shelby to the late Melvin E. and Ruth E. (Bodkin) Mess.

Tom graduated from Shelby High School in 1970. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army, and after many years, he retired from AK Steel, where he was a proud member of the Union. He was an avid hunter, and he loved to read. He was quick and sharp-witted, and no one could match his sharp delivery of comedic punchlines.

He is survived by his siblings David (Kathy) Mess, Edward (Jody) Mess, and Sue Ellen Mess; his niece and nephews Melissa Long and Grant and Garrett (Tasha) Mess; his great-nieces and -nephews Alyssa Long, Bella Mess, Calvin Mess, and Lincoln Mess; his great-great-niece and -nephew Ryenne and Maison Long; his beloved dog Trey; and his second family from the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margie Mess and his parents Melvin and Ruth Mess.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date at the VFW.
