SHELBY — Habitat for Humanity of Richland & Crawford Counties is seeking proposals from qualified area contractors for the construction of two new single-family homes.

One home will be on Sherman Avenue in Shelby and the other one on Wiley Avenue in Crestline.

The homes will be built from an identical plan set and will be the first two projects using a new high-performance home model developed with Habitat’s design team.

The model is designed to support long-term affordability for Habitat partner families through improved energy efficiency, durability, indoor air quality, and reduced utility and maintenance costs.

The homes will incorporate enhanced airtightness standards, continuous mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, cold-climate air-source heat pumps, and carefully selected interior materials.

“These homes are being designed with affordability in mind not only at the time of purchase, but for the years that follow,” said Aubri Them, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Richland & Crawford Counties.

“We want to build homes that are durable, efficient, healthy, and economical for our partner families to live in long-term.”

Habitat is seeking contractors with strong residential construction experience, demonstrated quality workmanship, and the ability to work collaboratively with Habitat staff, its design team, subcontractors, volunteers, and future homeowners.

Experience with high-performance or airtight construction is preferred, though contractors who can demonstrate a strong plan and willingness to work within the project’s performance requirements are also encouraged to submit proposals.

Habitat’s preference is to award both projects to one contractor with the capacity and schedule to manage the homes successfully. Volunteer and partner-family sweat-equity labor will also be incorporated into the projects where appropriate.

Contractors may review the complete Bid Set and Request for Proposals, including performance requirements, project scope, submission requirements, schedule, and selection criteria, at: www.habitatofrcc.org/rfps-and-bids
