MARION — It’s safe to say Shelby is soaring into the high school football postseason.

Having already clinched a home playoff game and a first-round bye, the Whippets (10-0, 7-0) added an outright Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference title to their resume with a 37-6 win over Marion Harding (3-7, 2-5) on Friday nibhg.

The win also earned Shelby its first back-to-back undefeated regular seasons since the 1967 and 1968 campaigns.

Since its 11-point win over Galion in Week 4, Shelby has outscored its opponents 276 to 30.

The Whippets scored 22 of their 37 points in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Brayden DeVito rushed for two of those TDs and found junior receiver Brady Bowman for 44 yards for the third score of the opening 12 minutes.

DeVito ran for another touchdown in the second period, giving Shelby a 30-0 lead at the break. Neither team scored in the third. DeVito connected with junior Michael Shepherd for a 12-yard TD in the fourth to finish it.

On the night, the Air Force commitment threw for 237 yards, rushed for 72 and accounted for five total touchdowns.

Bowman and fellow receiver Avery Lambert both had five receptions for a combined 173 yards. Shepherd finished with 38 receiving yards and Gavin Miller had 26.

On the ground, running backs Gavin Baker and Travis Slone combined for 61 yards.

Harding’s lone score came in the fourth period when Landen Keller found the end zone from three yards out. Keller carried the ball nine times for 23 yards Friday.

With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, the Whippets will have two weeks until they line up against an opponent yet to be determined.
