ASHLAND — A Loudonville dog breeder currently facing two misdemeanor counts was arrested Tuesday on 10 new charges.
Daniel A. Miller, 64, was taken into custody for the second time in 12 days following 10 new charges filed by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, according to Ashland Municipal Court records.
Those 10 new charges include:
- Six counts of cruelty to a companion animal (all first-degree misdemeanors).
- Engage in sexual conduct with an animal (second-degree misdemeanor).
- Possessing criminal tools (first-degree misdemeanor).
- Deprive a companion animal of sustenance (first-degree misdemeanor).
- Torture, torment or commit act of cruelty (second-degree misdemeanor).
Miller is set to appear in municipal court Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. in light of the charges filed Tuesday, according to court officials.
Ashland Source left a message Tuesday afternoon with Wooster attorney Patrick L. Brown, who is representing Miller in the cases stemming from Aug. 27, seeking comment. At the time of this story’s publication, Brown had not responded to that request.
Miller was previously arrested on Aug. 27 following an ACSO investigation which led to him surrendering 72 dogs into the custody of the Ashland County Humane Society.
Court records dated Aug. 31 show a 10-percent cash bond was posted by Mahlou Hochstetler in the amount of $854. The docket also shows a recognizance form was signed and filed.
Miller is now back in the Ashland County Jail.
Following the Aug. 27 arrest, two misdemeanor charges were filed against Miller: falsification (first-degree misdemeanor) and obstructing official business (second-degree misdemeanor).
An arraignment and pretrial — stemming from the two charges filed Aug. 31 — are set for Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. before Ashland Municipal Court Judge John Good.
