When it comes to Medicare, the hardest part is knowing what questions to ask. The TV ads and glossy mailers make every plan sound perfect — but they rarely cover the details that matter most to your health and your wallet.

Here are three of the most important questions to ask your agent (or yourself) before you sign up for a new plan:

  1. Are my doctors and hospitals in-network?
Even one doctor being out-of-network can mean higher bills or having to switch providers you trust.
  2. Are my prescriptions still covered — and at what cost?
Plans update their drug lists every year. Make sure your daily medications won’t suddenly become unaffordable.
  3. What will my real out-of-pocket costs look like?
A $0 premium doesn’t mean $0 cost. Ask about deductibles, copays, and maximum out-of-pocket expenses.

The right agent should walk you through each of these questions without pressure, using your actual providers and prescriptions as the guide. If they can’t — or if they brush past your concerns — that’s a red flag.

I’ve spent 17 years helping families in Richland County cut through the fine print. My job is to make sure you leave the conversation with answers you can trust.
