MANSFIELD — The Main Street Corridor Improvement Project in downtown Mansfield has officially reached the quarter-pole of the 20-month project.
According to Downtown Mansfield Inc., the work during the last two weeks included:
- Curb and sidewalks complete between Fifth and Sixth streets.
- Storm drainage installations continued along Main Street.
- Lighting foundation installations continued along Main Street.
- Water main trench repair work continued.

Here’s what to expect in the new two weeks:
- Additional storm sewer installations at First and Second streets.
- Additional lighting installations along Main Street.
- Sidewalk and curb installation between Fourth and Fifth streets,
- Road surface repair and clean up from Fourth Street to Park Avenue.
Here is a look at traffic and accessibility impact:
- One-lane will be open on Main Street, south of Park Avenue.
- Main Street will be closed from:
- Fourth Street to Fifth Street until approximately early-to-mid September
- Park Avenue to Fourth Street for approximately one week
- Intermittent closures of Third Street between Diamond and Walnut streets for approximately one week.
DMI said every effort will be made to adhere to the stated schedule. However, changes may be made in response to field conditions or to expedite work in specific areas.
Businesses will remain open and accessible to pedestrians at all times. Watch for marked pedestrian detours and watch your step for uneven ground.
Update: Free parking and business accessibility downtown
Pedestrian access is being maintained to businesses throughout the project. Many businesses also have rear access available through back doors and alleys (see photos below, for example). Follow us and your favorite downtown shops on social media for tips on navigating construction.
In addition to ample public parking on surface lots, meters have also been removed and on-street parking is now free along Main Street and on some side streets through the end of the project. Please see the map below for details.
