MANSFIELD — The finish line to the $20.3 million Main Street Corridor Improvement project is about five months away.

The project, which began in March 2025, is scheduled to be complete by the end of October, according to city officials.

The project is a complete upgrade of Main Street from First to Sixth streets and Park Avenue from Main to Diamond streets, designed by K.E. McCartney & Associates of Mansfield with Kokosing Construction as the primary contractor.

On Tuesday, hundreds of volunteers and donors came together to set more than 100 planters and 72 hanging baskets throughout downtown Mansfield, according to a social media post from Downtown Mansfield Inc. (photos below from DMI)

Here is what officials say is coming by the end of May in the Main Street project:

  • Continued work on plaza walls.
  • Continued stone veneer installation on walls and flower beds between Third and Fifth streets.
  • Curb and sidewalk installations between First and Third streets.
  • Additional vehicular and pedestrian signals installed and wired.
  • Drainage work along Park Avenue and South Walnut Street.
  • Decorative light poles installed between First and Second streets.
  • Additional topsoil placed and tree grates installed.

Officials said the following work was done between May 2 and May 15:

  • Excavation and grading completed between Park Avenue and Third Street.
  • Continued work on plaza walls.
  • Irrigation lines installed between Park Avenue and Third Street.
  • Electrical conduit installed between Park Avenue and Third Street.
  • Tree grates installed.
  • Vehicular and pedestrian signals installed at Fifth and Sixth streets.
  • Signals installed.
  • Curb poured between Second and Third streets, between Second Street and Park Avenue and along Park Avenue between Diamond and Walnut streets.
  • Continued stone veneer installation on walls between Third and Fourth streets.
  • Curb placed between First and Second streets and along Park Avenue between Diamond and Walnut streets.

Officials also reminded residents that South Park Street and North Park Street are now both two-way streets.

They said both of those streets are still fully accessible during construction. Due to the closure of Main Street on the western side of both streets, motorists may now enter and exit through the east side, off of Diamond Street.

Both streets will be permanently converted to two-way in order to improve access to businesses on the square and make navigation easier for visitors and residents.
