CRESTLINE — Crestline Exempted Local School District is proud to congratulate the High School FCCLA for their competition in career development events for regional competition on March 8 at Lorain Co. JVS.

All five events and thirteen students have qualified for state competition in Columbus on April 24. Their hard work on projects ranging from interior design to distracted driving awareness earned them gold, silver and bronze medals.

Receiving gold, Sophomore Addy Giesige and Freshman Izzy Sefcek competed in Interior Design, Level 2 with their design of an Airbnb inspired by Lion King.

Sophomores Bridget Belcik and Jaelyn Tesso used their project on grief to compete in Professional Presentation, Level 2.

They presented to elementary classes, the FCS Advisory Committee and a Personal Wellness and Development class for their project, and earned themselves a silver medal.

On the premise that making reading fun would get students to read more and increase their reading scores, sophomores Kylie Kelly, Jayden Lozier and Haylee Seymour competed in the Focus on Children, Level 2 project.

They worked with first grade teacher Angie Mohn and her students, reading books, making crafts and eating book-related snacks in hopes to drive attention and improve scores. For these efforts, they also received a silver medal.

Sophomores Alyssa Cottrell, Nevaeh Hill and Sia Tsappa sponsored crock pot cooking meals for sixth grade students and their parents for their National Programs in Action – Families First, Level 2 project on crock pot cooking with family.

Participants were given crock pots and the ingredients for making cowboy casserole and cheesy broccoli soup.

The sophomores taught about the importance of eating together and learning to cook, and earned a bronze medal.

Eighth grade students Calvin Iacobucci, Marcus Wilson and Bentley Woogerd competed in the National Programs in Action – FACTS, Level 1 project.

The team applied for and received a $1,250 stipend for their distracted driving awareness project.

The students invited the Ohio Highway Patrol to do a presentation on distracted driving and arranged a distracted driving coloring contest for the elementary students. With that, they took home a bronze medal.

All projects will be improved and expanded on before April’s state competition in Columbus, Ohio on April 24. The top two projects in each category at each level will advance to national competition in Orlando, Florida July 5 to 10.

Best of luck Bulldogs!
