MADISON TOWNSHIP — It was a big day and night for the Ashland boys and girls track teams at Thursday’s Madison Invitational.
The Arrows cruised to team titles in what served as an unofficial kickoff to the area high school track scene.
Boys results
The Ashland boys nearly lapped the field, scorching everyone with 180.5 points. Shelby finished second with 98 points, just edging Clear Fork, who compiled 97 points. Madison with 70, just ahead of Hillsdale at 69. Mansfield Senior claimed sixth with 49 points, followed by Northwestern (35.5) and Oberlin 15.
Jonah Coffee was a double-winner for the Arrows in the 800-meter run (2:0868) and 1600-meter run (4:46.17), while teammate Jayden Goings was tops in the 300-meter hurdles (42.49) and Asher Stefaniuk claimed the 3200-meter run (10:54.32).
The Arrows also won team titles in the 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay and the 4×800 relay.
Hillsdale’s Hayden McFadden brought home two crowns in the 200-meter run (23:21) and the 400-meter run (52.08).
Shelby’s Gavin Baker earned two titles, busting the tape at 11.27 to top the 100-meter dash field, and claiming the top of the podium in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.74 performance.

Girls results
The Arrows’ girls squad was no less impressive, racking up 151 points. Again, Shelby took runner-up honors at 109, followed by Oberlin at 105. Clear Fork placed fourth at 92 points, followed by Madison (42), Northwestern (40), Mansfield Senior (34) and Hillsdale (34).
Vivian Walter was a double-winner for Ashland, capturing championships in the 100-meter hurdles (16.00) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.36).
Other Arrows to win individual crowns included Frankie Rupsis in the high jump (5-foot-0) and Ava Cline in the 3200-meter run (12.46.05).
Shelby’s Ava Bowman topped the 100-meter dash field (12.67), while teammate Anna Will was tops in the 800-meter run (2:30.11). Clear Fork’s Katrina Neal was the champion in the 1600-meter run (5:40.89), and Colts’ standout Taylor Richmond won the long jump (15-feet, 8 inches).
Ashland also captured the 4×800 relay.
