MANSFIELD — Tamie Wilson told Richland Source she’s running because “people need real representation in the 4th District.”

As of Tuesday evening, the Delaware County resident is one step closer to representing the district in Washington, D.C.

According to final, unofficial totals from the Ohio Secretary of State, Wilson received 63.38 percent of the votes to defeat Steve Thomas 15,034 to 8,685.

She’ll challenge incumbent Republican Jim Jordan in the November 2024 general election.

Jordan defeated Wilson in the November 2022 general election, receiving 69.2 percent of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

Wilson ‘honored’ to receive Democratic nomination

During a phone interview Tuesday night with Richland Source, Wilson said she feels “honored” receiving the Democratic nomination and a chance to represent the 4th District.

“I’m very honored and happy that the people in District 4 have assigned me the task to take out Jim Jordan,” Wilson said, adding she wants to see more women represented in Washington.

Wilson defeated Thomas in each of the 13 counties which comprise the 4th District. She received 54.03 percent of votes in Richland County and 64.44 percent in Ashland County.

She said the results are a reflection of her hard work and dedication while campaigning over the last three years.

“It proves that people want change,” Wilson said. “This district has gone neglected for 17 years and people are tired of it.

“I’m fired up and ready to go, and represent everyone. We all deserve to have a better life.”

She’s centered her campaigning around connectedness and getting to know people in the district’s communities, which Wilson said she’ll continue to do over the coming months.

“When people meet me, they understand that I really care,” Wilson said.

“I’ve been working to solve problems and have been writing legislation. My game plan is to keep connecting with people and let them know that I’m here to represent the people, not a party.”

Wilson wants to work in a ‘bipartisan manner’

The lifelong Ohioan told Richland Source in February she considers herself a “common-sense candidate,” adding she’ll work in a bipartisan manner to do what’s best for the 4th District, state and country.

Wilson, a 51-year-old entrepreneur, said she’s writing nine bills centered around helping people in her district —something she feels has been lacking from its current representation.

Her legislative agenda addresses areas including domestic violence, Social Security, tax cuts, domestic terrorism and cyber security.

She’s also working on a comprehensive sexual abuse prevention and accountability act, aimed at protecting students and athletes from sexual abuse in educational institutions.

Bills focused on enhancing resources, services and support for veterans and senior citizens are also featured in her current efforts.

Winning the votes of Republicans and independents this November is something Wilson knows she’ll need to do in order to represent Ohio’s 4th District.

The Democrat told Richland Source in February she’s been doing everything she can to “reach across the aisle” while on the campaign trail.

“I feel like both parties have extremes,” Wilson said. “I feel most of America is straight down the middle and so am I.”
