MANSFIELD — Firefighter Ryan Landin said the Mansfield Fire Department (MFD) is “the best job in the world” at his promotion ceremony Wednesday morning.

Landin earned the rank of lieutenant and Lt. Timothy Tingley was promoted to captain. MFD Chief Steve Strickling also presented Landin with a red helmet distinguishing a lieutenant or captain.

The 39-year-old is a Galion High School graduate and has worked at the Mansfield Fire Dept. for 15 years. His mother, Cyndi Landin, pinned his new badge.

“I’m excited to serve the citizens and my fellow firemen in more of a leadership role,” Landin said. “I want to lead the guys as best I can, lead by example and hopefully finish out my career here.”

Landin will supervise firefighters at Station 4 in his new role.

Tingley, 39, has worked at MFD for 17 years and served as a lieutenant since 2018. His mother, Sonia Tingley, pinned his badge.

“I think I’m the youngest captain now, and it means a lot to promote through the ranks and have more responsibility,” he said.

Tingley lives in his hometown of Butler and graduated from Clear Fork High School.

“This is the only place I really ever wanted to work,” he said. “We get a good mix of fires, shootings and EMS calls, so it’s new every day.”

MFD Chief Steve Strickling said he could see Tingley leading the department in the future.

“It’s an exciting time for both of these guys and it’s always a good thing to see new blood getting promoted,” he said.

Both Landin and Tingley will serve a six-month probationary period in their new roles before their promotions are finalized. Strickling said the department will send them to additional training to hone their skills.
