FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown FFA participated in the recent Area 3 Envirothon Competition at Carroll County Bluebird Farm Park in Carrollton, Ohio.
The Envirothon program is a hands-on environmental and natural resource competition. This program will test student teams on their knowledge and awareness of environmental issues. The Envirothon curriculum provides comprehensive hands-on training in ecology and natural resource management while emphasizing teamwork.
Areas of study incorporated five major subjects: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils/Land Use, Wildlife Management, and current environmental issues. This year’s environmental topic was, “Adapting to a Changing Climate.”
This program helps to develop environmentally aware youth, able to assume future leadership roles. Many students go on to pursue careers in environmental law, natural resource management, etc. or go on to be doctors, lawyers, and more with a background and understanding about nature and the environment.
Area 3 is made up of 16 counties: Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Knox, Licking, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Tuscarawas, and Washington.
Five Area Envirothons are conducted around Ohio in April and May with the Top 4 teams from each of these areas competitions progressing to the Ohio Envirothon on June 11 to 13 at Defiance College in Defiance County.
The Fredericktown FFA team placed 21st overall in the Area 3 competition.
