ASHLAND — In honor of Foster Care Appreciation Month, Fostering Family Ministries is hosting a Color Fun 1 mile Walk & 5K Fun Run.

The event is slated for May 20 at Freer Field, 1264 Center St., Ashland. Check-in is at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start. A group color throw photo and recognition is scheduled for 8:45 a.m.

Everyone is invited to participate in the Color Fun 1-mile walk or 5K fun run. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. A white shirt will best show off the colorful powder thrown from the color stations along the route.

As participants celebrate children and families in foster care, they will be raising donations to support the work of Fostering Family Ministries to serve vulnerable children and families. A generous Wayne County donor has provided a matching challenge up to $25,000.

“Over the past seven years, we have seen an incredible increase in the number of supported foster families who have helped the community keep pace with the needs of children in foster care,” Sherry Bouquet, FFM executive director, said. “Churches and communities are stepping up to provide support to foster and kinship families. Our partnerships reach Ashland, Richland, Knox, Medina, and Wayne counties, allowing us to support children in your community.

“Would you celebrate with us by helping us raise funds for the work we are doing in North Central Ohio? Your support is critical to engage the community and the church effectively in the needs of vulnerable children and families. Color Fun Walk & Run. Go an extra mile for a child.”
