Then & Now: Roseland School

The old Roseland School stood at the intersection of Springmill Street and Trimble Road until the mid-1930s when the district was consolidated with the Mansfield City Schools. Students moved to a city school for about a decade until the new Roseland School opened further south on Trimble Road at Wyandotte.

At the time students abandoned the old one-room building, it was taken over by the Roseland Grange, which leased the place for $1 a year.

The building stood as long as it was in use, but when the Grange moved out in 1966 it wasn’t long until the corner of Trimble and 39 became an empty lot again.

This photo shows Miss Mann and her students around 1933-34. If you look in the background of the old picture you’ll find two young trees, one of which may be the venerable old tree in the photo taken recently at the same site.

Students identified

(For anyone hoping to identify relatives, the back of the photo is included here.)

Virginia Garrison Weaver is one of those little kids in front of her school.
