ASHLAND — The American College has conferred the degree of Master of Science in Financial Planning (MSFP) with a Concentration in Retirement Planning upon Chad Brown, RICP, a Bellville native and founder of Compass Financial Strategies in Ashland.
Brown’s degree came in recognition of meeting the requirements of the Richard D. Irwin Graduate School, and upon nomination by the faculty and by the authority of the Board of Trustees. In earning this degree, he is joining an elite group of individuals who, through commitment to higher education and dedication to professionalism, have reached a level of academic achievement among the highest in financial services.
Students in the MSFP program receive a strong foundation in financial planning principles using sound, ethical, business practices and have the option to choose one of three concentrations.
The Retirement Planning Concentration includes a core curriculum covering advanced financial and legacy planning concepts as well as behavioral finance and case development theory and practice. It also includes advanced retirement planning, estate management, and business succession strategies.
It is not easy to earn an MSFP degree and they are very rare compared to other financial services designations. In Ohio, for example, there are more than 3,500 certified financial planners designees, but less than 140 MSFP/MSFS degrees were awarded nationwide in 2021.
