MANSFIELD — The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (MRCPL) has launched a new Adult Literacy Program. This program will provide free tutoring services to residents of Richland County ages 18 and over with low literacy skills.

The Adult Literacy Program will match trained volunteer tutors with learners who desire to improve their basic reading ability and open the door to skills such as obtaining a GED/high school diploma, searching and applying for jobs, using email, and reading allowed to others.

The library is currently accepting adult literacy volunteers. Literacy volunteers need to be at least 18 years old, willing to undergo a background check, must commit to at least one 10-week session at the library, consisting of one-hour weekly lessons, and be trained in the necessary tutoring skills and methods.

For more information about becoming a student or a volunteer in the Adult Literacy Program at MRCPL, call Steve Russell, Workforce Development Coordinator, at 419-521-4721 or go to the Adult Literacy webpage on mrcpl.org.
