LEXINGTON — Lexington’s seniors went out with a bang on Friday night, in their last home football game.
The Minutemen unleashed a number of big plays by their upperclassmen to register a 28-10 Ohio Cardinal Conference win over Madison.
Senior quarterback A.J. Young fired one touchdown pass, and senior Dylan Jamieson tossed two more as Lexington improved to 3-6 overall, 3-3 in the OCC.
“Those two really play off each other well,” Lexington coach Andrew Saris said. “They both did a good job of getting the ball to our playmakers.”
Madison controlled the ball and the clock for more than eight minutes in the first quarter while driving 76 yards, culminating in Travis Jameson’s 32-yard field goal with 1:52 showing.
But that was the last time the Rams would lead.
Lexington countered with each of its QBs firing scoring passes in the second period.
Young’s 32-yard TD strike to Brayden Fogle came on a 3rd-and-16 snap, and gave the Minutemen the lead for good.
Jamieson followed with a 66-yard aerial to D.J. Johnson for a 14-3 halftime bulge.
“Their receivers had a big size advantage,” Madison coach Scott Valentine said. “We have to do a better job of helping them out.”
Neither team scored in the third period, but Jamieson connected with Fogle for a 24-yard score, and Mason Green scooted 28 yards for another touchdown.
The Rams never quit, though. Cameron Kuhn tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Khris Adkins-Tolbert with 3:40 showing.
It was a sweet win for Saris, who worked at Madison last year.
“It’s different because I know those guys, but this is all about our kids,” Saris said.
Lexington senior Hudson Moore returned for his first action since being knocked out of the lineup with an injury early in the season. On Friday night he starred on both sides of the ball, rushing for 87 yards on 14 carries and delivering several big defensive hits.
“It was big to have him back. He’s our leader,” Saris said. “He’s a mean kid, in a good way, on the football field.”
Madison controlled the ball and the clock throughout the first half, running 33 plays to just 16 for Lexington, but the Rams struggled to finish drives.
“The kids are still learning our concepts, it’s a process,” Valentine said.
Madison falls to 1-8 overall, 1-5 in the OCC. The Rams play host to arch-rival Mansfield Senior next week.
Lexington concludes its regular season on Friday night at Ashland.
