JEROMESIVLLE — Here’s the latest update from the Hillsdale FFA:

33rd Annual Red Power Roundup

On June 23 to 25 members of the Hillsdale FFA attended the 33rd Annual Red Power Round Up at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio. The Red Power Round Up is an annual convention for all things International Harvester ever manufactured or produced.

Last fall, Ben and Brenan Rogers donated a 1942 Farmall H to the Hillsdale FFA chapter for our yearly restoration project. Our members, Riley Twining, Ethan Goodwin, Mark Abel, and Owen Hoffman entered the Youth Tractor Restoration Contest at the Red Power Round Up. They were interviewed about the process of the restoration and received 1st place in the Contest.

They were also awarded $1,500 from the contest sponsor, H.G. Violet Equipment for winning the contest. Grace Ward documented and tracked the process of the restoration, starting to finish with a scrapbook used in the contest.

We would like to thank Ben and Brenan Rogers for donating the Farmall H to our FFA chapter. Another special thanks to Andrew Baldner and Micheal Schuck for helping with the restoration, Straight Away Industry for donating the sand blasting, and Andy Culler, Cullers tractor service in Lucas, Ohio.

Unable to attend the contest but also worked on the restoration of the tractor; prepping, cleaning, mechanical work, and painting were members, Gage Madsen, Jax Rogers, and Jake Hoverstock.

The Chapter is selling raffle tickets on the 1942 Farmall H that will be given away at the annual Hillsdale FFA Alumni Consignment sale at the RES Auction Services on March 4, 2023. To purchase tickets please get in contact with a FFA member or call the Ag department at 419-368-8509

Washington Leadership Conference

Washington Leadership Conference

On June 14 to 19, three members of the Hillsdale FFA, Zoey McBride, Emily McGovern, and Braydon Rakovec participated in the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) in Washington, D.C. WLC provides FFA members a premier leadership experience while exposing them to the rich history of Washington D.C.

This conference inspires FFA members to become innovators in their own communities. Each day of the conference focuses on a different concept taught through the context of our nation’s capital. Those pillars include Explore, Encourage, Advocate and Serve.

By the end of the week, members leave with a Living to Serve Plan they can implement in their communities. Zoey, Emily and Braydon traveled with Northwestern and St Mary’s FFA members on the Amtrak Train.

Outside of the conference agenda, the FFA members met with Jim Jordan; congressman from Ohio, toured George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and visited the United States Botanical Gardens. We would like to thank the Hillsdale FFA Alumni for making this experience possible for our FFA members.
