FREDERICKTOWN — No one spoke during the public participation portion of Fredericktown’s school board meeting Tuesday, but the rules of public participation will change starting at the next board meeting.

Specifically, people will no longer have to register to speak 24 hours before board meetings, board president Paul Napier said. Residents can now attend and decide to speak on the spot.

Some aspects will remain the same. Each person will still be limited to 3 minutes of speaking time, and overall the public participation portion of the meeting will remain capped at 30 minutes, Napier said.

Regarding finances, district treasurer Heather Darnold reported revenue exceeded expenditures during March.

Speech services were a large expense for the past month.

Fredericktown has seen an increase in special education needs, Darnold said. Specifically, speech needs and developmental delays have increased compared with last school year.

The board approved for the treasurer to participate in the Sedgwick Claims Management Services Workers’ Compensation Group Retrospective Rating Program for 2023, which will cost the district $400 (an increase of $5 from 2022).

The district will be adding two buses to its fleet.

The board accepted a bid from Mansfield Truck Sales and Service Inc. to purchase two buses, specifically 2023 Integrated CES Bus PB105, for the 2022-23 school year.

Each bus costs $92,996. One bus will be purchased through ESSER III funds at the full price. The other bus will be purchased through ODE School Bus Purchase Program, which means ODE will pay $45,000 and the district will pay $47,996.

The board approved to non-renew a multitude of supplemental contracts for sports coaches, which is an annual action for all non-union extracurricular supplemental contracts. Supplemental contracts for Federal Education Association unit members will also be non-renewed but are not subject to board approval.

The district received three recent donations.

The parent teacher organization donated $145.71 to the elementary as well as $50.00 to the little buckeye field trip deposit. Nature lovers garden club donated a $200 country colors gift card to the outdoor learning lab.
