Carol Newton, 73, of Mansfield passed away Feb. 19, 2022 at her home.
Carol was born Nov. 25, 1948 in Mansfield to Peter and Louise Zeides. She was a 1966 graduate of St. Peter’s High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1985 and a Master’s Degree from Ashland University in 2002.
She began her career teaching French at Madison High School and years later ended at Wynford Elementary teaching Special Education and Title I Reading.
Carol was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a member of their choir for many years. She also volunteered at St. Peter’s Schools helping in the cafeteria and at Bingo.
After her retirement from teaching, she loved to travel around the state looking for unique restaurants and places to visit. Carol’s biggest life achievement however, was raising her five kids and attending sporting and school events of her nine grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald Newton. Her five children: Don (Shana) Newton of Chippewa Lake, Pat (Charity) Newton of Cumming, Georgia, Shawn (Stacy) Newton of Mansfield, Cary (Morgan) Newton of Perrysburg, Devon (Steve) Lawhorn of Delaware.
Her nine grandchildren include: Sydney and Zach, Ashton and Brooklyn, Cody and Bo, Rex, Grace and Donovan. Siblings are Peter and John Zeides, and sister Rita Hope. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins that she cherished.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Robert Newton and Jeanne Nuhfer.
The family will receive condolences at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West on Wednesday Feb. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
