MANSFIELD — Mount Vernon led at every quarter stop and finally put away Mansfield Senior 62-57 on Tuesday night to earn the Ohio Cardinal Conference boys basketball victory at Pete Henry Gym.
The Yellow Jackets opened a 17-13 first-quarter lead and expanded the margin to 36-27 at halftime. The Tygers pulled to within 51-44 through three quarters, but were unable to climb out of the hole.
Maurice Ware spearheaded the Senior High attack with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Kyevi Roane added nine points.
Mansfield Senior has dropped four straight games in slipping to 4-9 overall, 2-5 in the OCC.
Mount Vernon improved to 9-7, 5-2 and will travel to Wooster on Friday night.
The Tygers will look to get back on track on Friday at home against West Holmes.
