ONTARIO — The Ontario girls basketball team unleashed a huge fourth-quarter rally and carried that momentum into overtime to dump 55-47 Lexington at the O-Rena on Tuesday night.

The Warriors (1-0)  trailed 36-22 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Lady Lex 20-6 in the final eight minutes to knot the game at 42 and force the extra session. Once there, Ontario continued to roll for the non-conference victory.

Taylor Counts topped Ontario with 19 points, including eight in overtime, and Lizzie Nagel had eight points and seven rebounds.

Lexington’s Kaitlyn Delano-Goodman led the way with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Cora Palmer chipped in 12 points.

Lady Lex (0-2) could not overcome 30 turnovers, despite owning a 52-43 rebounding advantage.

Ontario hit six treys, three by Counts, and outscored Lexington 18-3 from behind the arc.

Lady Lex led 8-6 after the first quarter and 21-10 at halftime. But this was a game with wild swings of momentum.

Lexington went on a 12-1 burst to forge an early advantage. The Warriors eventually countered with a 26-3 spree of their own.

Ontario travels to Marion Pleasant on Saturday night. Lady Lex hosts Ashland on Saturday.
