MANSFIELD — The Mansfield United Lions Club (MULC) hosted its inaugural Strides for Diabetes Awareness 5K Run and 1 mile walk on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at Malabar Middle School.
Diabetes awareness is one of the pillar causes supported by Lions Clubs International, Inc. The local club was honored to provide a spotlight on a disease that affects 1.5 million Americans annually, according to diabetes.org.
“The Strides for Diabetes Awareness, an event which Lions Clubs sponsor, is a great way to motivate people with diabetes to become active, and to allow their family and friends to show support for them as they work to manage their diabetes,” said Dr. Cynthia Dorsey, a MULC member and diabetes doctor.
“Other participants gain awareness of diabetes as well, and enjoy fellowship with a wide spectrum of people in the community.”
Participants were offered glucose checks at the beginning, middle and end of the race. There was also information available and prizes for winners overall and in each age category. Ohio Race Day timed the race and participants.
