LEXINGTON — Assistant principal Jamie Masi will lead Lexington High School as principal starting Aug. 1.
The Lexington Local Schools board of education approved Masi’s hire at its Wednesday night meeting, just a month after promoting Principal Kevin Young to assistant superintendent.
“I have complete confidence in Jamie being able to lead this building and the students and the staff. He’s going to do a great job,” Young said. “Before he makes a decision, he always considers what’s best for the kids and what’s best for the staff.”
Masi has served as Lexington’s assistant high school principal since 2019. Before coming to the district, he was the principal of Crestline High School for one year and an attendance officer and administrator at the Madison Local School District. He spent his first 17 years as an educator teaching high school math in multiple school districts.
A longtime resident of Lexington, he’s the father of one Lexington graduate and two students currently enrolled in the district.
Masi said his primary goal is to be as supportive as he can be to teachers and students.
“I’m very proud to be given the opportunity and at the same time very humbled,” Masi said. “I know that it’s a very important position and one that I will put my whole heart into and do whatever I can to help our staff and our students complete their goals however I can.”
Masi also expressed gratitude to the board and his fellow administrators for their support.
“I’ve known Jamie for quite some time,” said superintendent Jeremy Secrist. “I had the fortune of hiring him when I was the assistant principal at Madison.
“It was obvious that he was a leader, incredibly organized, cared about the kids, was really good with content and was a great teacher and great coach.”
Secrist said Masi’s leadership over the last year has showed that he’s ready for the role.
“We’re excited to have him do it because he’s gonna be fantastic,” he said.
