MANSFIELD — Joe Gies of Shelby this week was selected to serve as the president of the Richland County Regional Planning Commission for 2021 and 2022.
His selection came Wednesday during the RCRPC organizational meeting.
Gies serves on the commission’s transportation technical advisory committee, the zoning subdivision and land-use committee.
Gies brings extensive experience from his many years as project coordinator at the City of Shelby. In this role, he manages and oversees all aspects of construction projects within the city; administers regulations for zoning, subdivision and floodplain for the city.
He has been honored as the Floodplain Manager of the Year through the Ohio Floodplain Managers Association.
Deanna West-Torrence, founder and executive director of the North End Community Improvement Collaborative will serve as vice president.
Gies and West-Torrence will oversee the work of the commission, which is the comprehensive land use and transportation planning agency for the area.
The commission is made up of government, business and civic leaders from across the county. The organization serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Mansfield /Richland County Urbanized Area.
With a staff of seven, the organization develops planning studies, and provides planning services, data and technical assistance to support the decision makers in Richland County.
