MANSFIELD — Representatives from The Humane Society of Richland County were present at Spitzer Motors on Thursday, Sept. 24 to receive a check totaling more than $11,000 from Chris and Lori Cates, who organized the Car Show to benefit The Humane Society of Richland County.

The event, now in its third year, took place at Spitzer Motors on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Car show to benefit Humane Society

“Chris and Lori have really outdone themselves this year. This event, now in its third year, has grown exponentially each year,” managing director Linda Chambers said. “That is no small feat – especially considering the challenges and restrictions this year has presented. We are in awe of their efforts and very, very grateful.”

The event, which is held outdoors, has something for everyone. Games, prizes, raffles, music, food, dogs, and of course, cars. This year, the Humane Society of Richland County volunteers brought Harriet, one of their adoptable dogs, to the event. HSRC Operations Manager Toni Ross loves the chance to show the dogs off to the community.

“Events like this are a great opportunity to showcase just how special our animals are. Harriet (a 5-year-old terrier mix) had a great time, meeting people and seeing all the cars. She is a very good girl.”

As of Sept. 29, Harriet is still available for adoption.

Board Chair Don Bryant emphasized why events like the car show are so special.

“As a non profit organization, The Humane Society of Richland County receives no government funds,” Bryant said. “Every donation helps us further our cause in caring for the animals in our community. The staff and board are incredibly thankful to Chris and Lori for their efforts, and to Spitzer for hosting the event.”

A date for next year’s event has not yet been announced.
