MANSFIELD — More than 800 students have had academic support and success at the Dewald Community Center of The Salvation Army.

Since its doors opened in 2005, this will be the first year the organization offers tutoring/educational support during the school day, not after-school instruction.

“We are adapting to the ongoing changes of the COVID-19 pandemic and focusing on those who chose the remote learning option, and during the hybrid model start,” said Lis Gleisner, Director of the Dewald Community Center. “We will adapt to further changes as needed.”

The Learning Zone of the Dewald Community Center will:

• Operate Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. for two tutoring sessions per grading period.

• Require students to complete a registration packet prior to attending. A $10 registration fee is required. No further fees are required.

• No transportation will be provided.

• Licensed teachers are on staff to assist students in completing assignments, homework and improving literacy, while offering one-on-one and small group instruction

• The Learning Zone opens on Monday, Sept. 14 and is located at 47 South Main Street, Mansfield.

“After months of discussions with my staff, our Advisory Board, Headquarters, and even the Mansfield School District, we weighed the options presented to us, and feel confident we chose the best plan for the students at this time,” Gleisner said. “As changes rise, we are prepared to adapt if needed.

“We are ready to go! We handled all the mandates required for a successful Summer Zone and are ready for Learning Zone 2020/2021. We are here to help! Together we can prepare our students to succeed in school and in life.”

The Dewald Community Center of The Salvation Army is dedicated to serving The Mansfield Community. Dewald Community Center is preparing the way for individuals of all ages to make positive life choices and become increasingly self-reliant.
