SHELBY — The First Lutheran Church at 33 Broadway St. continues to operate its food pantries for the local community during this time of need and uncertainty.

“Please feel free to come and take advantage of this service as our pantries are full and we can’t wait to see you and your family!” organizers said in an email.

On Aug. 18, the special monthly mobile drive-pn pantry featuring fresh fruits and vegetables will be at the church, beginning at approximately 9 a.m. and continuing until supplies are exhausted.

Participants should enter the church lot through the Broadway driveway, where they will be greeted by an attendant who will direct them to the special pick-up area.

Participants must provide the greeter with their driver’s license or identification showing their name and address.

Participants will remain in their vehicles and open their trunks so the items can be safely and quickly loaded.

“Please make sure your trunk is empty so the items/boxes can be safely and conveniently loaded. This procedure will help ensure the health and safety of everyone during these times,” organizers said.

There is no need to register for the mobile pantry effort, which is free and open to anyone in the community and area.

The regular food pantry is held every Wednesday from 9 a.m. until noon at the church.

Because of the pandemic, it is now curbside pick-up only every Wednesday and participants must call the church office at 419-347-7675 to register and set-up an appointment time.

There are a variety of food stuffs and household commodities available every Wednesday at the pantry.
