MANSFIELD — Three people were hospitalized, including a Mansfield Police officer, after a two-car crash Friday night in the city. One of the vehicles involved in the crash was a Mansfield Police cruiser, responding to a call for help.
According to a Mansfield Police statement, at approximately 8:22 p.m., Officer Justin Cikity was responding to “a call for assistance” from other officers on Emerald Avenue who had called over the radio for help at the scene of a fight. Officer Cikity was eastbound on East 1st Street in a marked police cruiser #44 with lights and sirens activated, when a 2007 Kia entered into his lane of travel, northbound from Bowers Avenue after stopping for a Stop Sign; resulting in an injury crash.
Both the 22-year-old female driver and 19-year-old female passenger in the Kia were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officer Cikity was also transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The Mansfield Police Department said it would have no further comment on the incident as the investigation is being conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
