GREEN TOWNSHIP – An 87-year-old Wooster woman was killed in a Christmas Eve crash in Green Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. 

Phyllis Workman, a passenger in one of the vehciles, was transported to Wooster Community Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Troopers are investigating the crash involving a GMC Canyon and a Honda Accord that occurred at the intersection of Honeytown Road and Smithville Western Road at approximately 9:25 p.m. on Dec. 24.

The A 2011 GMC was traveling southbound on Honeytown Road when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign for Smithville Western Road. The GMC struck a 2009 Honda which was making a left turn from northbound Honeytown Road onto westbound Smithville Western Road.

The driver of the Honda, Michael Workman, 65, from Wooster, received minor injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the GMC Canyon, Mitchell Cecil, 25, of Wooster, Ohio was uninjured.

The Patrol stated that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Honeytown Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was being investigated.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Central Fire and EMS. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
