MADISON TOWNSHIP — Alex Green is one of the fastest high school sprinters in all of Ohio and the Lexington senior’s game-changing speed was on full display Friday at STARTEK Stadium.

Green returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, caught a 77-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter and had two other punt return TDs nullified by penalty as the Minutemen rumbled to a 42-0 win over Madison.

“He’s a freak. His athletic ability is through the roof,” Lexington coach Tim Scheid said of Green, who finished second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at last spring’s Division I state track meet. “We were able to get him the ball in space tonight. He had some great runs and he’s so dangerous on special teams.”

The Minutemen (3-6, 2-4) got on the board when Corbin Green bulled his way into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter. Madison couldn’t get anything going on its next possession and was forced to punt.

Enter Green.

The shifty speedster fielded the punt at his own 10 yard line and weaved through the Madison defense for a 90-yard touchdown.

Trailing 14-0, Madison (0-9, 0-5) had a chance to cut into the deficit late in the second quarter but turned the ball over on downs at the Lexington 12-yard line with 1:58 to play in the first half. Two plays later, Lex quarterback Cole Pauley found Green for a 77-yard score as Lexington took a 21-0 lead to the half.

“He’s an excellent player and he did a tremendous job tonight,” Madison coach Dave Stupka said of Green. “He’s tough to stop.”

Lex extended its lead to 28-0 with 9:20 left in the third when Keith Thomas scored on a 4-yard run. Corbin Green’s second touchdown of the night, an 8-yarder, gave the Minutemen a 35-0 lead. Brayden Stoots capped the scoring with a 49-yard TD run with 5:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.

“I can’t say enough about the job our offensive line did,” Scheid said. “We put a bunch of different ball carriers back there and they all ran the ball well. That is a testament to the offensive line.”

The Rams were down four starters along their offensive line.

“The guys we had out there stepped up this week, especially Christian Hrivinak,” Stupka said. “He’s done a heck of a job for us as tight end, but he came to me and said he would play wherever we needed him.

“To me, that’s a true teammate.”
