MANSFIELD — Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services will officially launch Mental Health Month in May on Friday at 11:15 a.m. with a flag raising and presentation at its 87 E. First St. offices.

The event is open to the public.

Mental Health Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949, reaching millions of people in the United States through the media, local events, and screenings.

In addition to receiving proclamations from various government entities during the month, other events planned in May include:

May 8 — Catalyst Life Services will host its annual Kids Carnival in honor of Children’s Mental Health Awareness from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Rehab Center, 270 Sterkel Blvd. The free event will include hot dogs, snacks, games, prizes for kids and more. Call 419-774-6875 for more information.

May 20 — The NAMI Support Group will meet at the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board on East First Street from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The speaker will be Crystal Schaffer, nurse manager of the Ohio Health Behavioral Health Unit. May 21 — The Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board will host its annual dinner celebration and board meeting at Dan Lew Exchange in downtown Mansfield. Keynote speaker will be Cheri Walter, CEO of the Ohio Association of County Behaviorial Health Authorities. For more information or to RSVP for the event, call 419-774-5811.
